![]() ![]() I'm an amateur astronomer, I am trying to find a very accurate terrain profile for my city, useful to input that in an astronomy software and then be able to calculate the times at which the principal stars below the horizon will rise and set. Suncurves is helping me achieve my health goals! ![]() So I set myself a bedtime alarm for visible sunrise minus 9 hours to ensure I am getting a solid 8 hours of sleep each night. Suncurves tells me when the sun will get up tomorrow. My goal is to wake up "with the sun" each day to get my body’s circadian rhythm synchronized with daylight-based zeitgebers help me get better sleep. I used Suncurves to create a schedule for myself in 2015. The land has a slight slope and we are unsure if it will receive enough sunlight between April and August to grow crops. I am using SunCurves to assess the amount of sunlight a parcel of potential agricultural land has. And, you saved me an hour of extra sleep next week because I know now the sun won't be out before 9am :) Cheers from Switzerland, keep up the great work! I am travelling the world and sometimes I can't do location scouting because I just see it once I'm there. ![]() #Which direction does the sunrise freeI just found your tool today and I am not only promoting it to get free credits, but because it's friggin' awesome! This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for as an outdoor photographer. Your service was very helpful in determining the best time for my client's ceremony and photos, which is so important for photographers! The ceremony will take place just below a mountain top, where the sun can go "down" long before the actual sunset time. UV: High 26 28 27 23 Wind direction and speed mph Choose wind speed units. She wanted to be sure we had the best light possible for her bride and groom photos. Calculations of sunrise and sunset in Honolulu - Hawaii - USA for March 2022. I am a wedding photographer and had a client asking what would be the best time for her wedding ceremony, in relation to the photographs we'd be doing after the ceremony. It also means that the time of earliest sunset must happen before the solstice.I was excited to find your service. It pushes the time of latest sunrise to occur after the solstice and that’s why we have this wait to see more of the morning Sun. The Earth has to rotate more to bring the Sun back into place and this shifts both the sunrise and sunset progressively later. This naturally brings later sunrises and earlier sunsets.īut as we approach the solstice, the second effect kicks in - the solar day starts getting longer. As we move towards winter, the tilt of the Earth makes the days grow shorter. That’s why the solar day is less than 24 hours at the time of the equinox.īut at the extremes of the “Sun’s orbit” the rate of movement in the north-south direction slows and most of the Sun’s movement is now east-west or parallel to the Earth’s equator.Īt these times, the Earth has to rotate even further to bring the Sun back to due north, and hence the solar day is longer than 24 hours around the time of the solstices. The Sun is mostly moving north-south with only a small fraction of its movement in the east-west direction (or parallel to the equator).Īnd because the Sun doesn’t “move” very far in the east-west direction, the Earth doesn’t need to rotate as much for the Sun to return to due north and complete a solar day. The “Sun’s orbit” near the equator is relatively steep. When the Sun crosses the Earth’s equator it is the time of the equinox (or equal day-night). While here in the south, as the Earth rotates on its axis, it’s the nights that are long and our winter days are short. When the Sun hits its northern most point, it shines down on the northern hemisphere bringing the long days of summer. You can also see the why the Earth’s tilt (seen in the diagram as the tilt of the Sun’s orbit) causes the seasons. They are the moments when the Sun reaches its most northern or southern points. On the day of the summer or winter solstice, the sun rises and sets at its most northern or southern location. It often helps if you suspend reality and consider an Earth-centric view. ![]()
